Overview

An independent veterinary practice in Scarborough is seeking a Clinical Lead Veterinary Surgeon to provide clinical leadership, mentor a supportive team, and help shape the future of patient care.

This opportunity is ideal for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon, Senior Vet, or Clinical Director looking to step into a leadership role while maintaining an excellent work–life balance, with a 4-day week and no out-of-hours commitments.

About the Practice

Established in 2009, the practice has built a strong reputation for compassionate, patient-focused veterinary care and long-standing client relationships.

The team operates within a collaborative and supportive environment, where vets and nurses work closely together and clinical discussions are actively encouraged. The culture extends beyond the practice, with regular team socials and a genuinely close-knit atmosphere.

The veterinary team includes clinicians with interests in surgery, imaging, and exotic species, supported by experienced Head Nurses and a skilled nursing and reception team.

Facilities include:

  • Digital radiography
  • Adaptix 3D imaging
  • Ultrasound
  • iM3 dental suite
  • IDEXX in-house laboratory (including SediVue & InVue microscopy)

The practice also benefits from visiting specialists and strong referral partnerships.

The Role – Clinical Lead Veterinary Surgeon

The successful candidate will take on a key leadership role, influencing clinical standards and supporting team development, while maintaining an engaging and varied clinical caseload.

This role offers genuine clinical autonomy and the opportunity to introduce new ideas, develop services, and contribute to the long-term direction of the practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical leadership and day-to-day support to the veterinary team
  • Develop and implement clinical protocols and best practices
  • Mentor and coach Veterinary Surgeons at all career stages
  • Conduct regular one-to-one meetings and support professional development
  • Promote collaboration, case discussion, and continuous improvement
  • Maintain high standards of patient and client care

Work-Life Balance & Hours

The practice is committed to offering a sustainable veterinary career, ensuring leadership responsibilities do not come at the expense of personal time:

  • 4-day working week (8:00–17:00 or 9:00–18:00)
  • Fixed day off each week
  • 1 in 5 Saturday mornings (8:30–13:00)
  • No out-of-hours, Sundays, or bank holidays
  • OOH and inpatient care managed by a local hospital

Salary & Benefits
