Locum Farm Veterinary Surgeon – Cheshire | Dairy & Farm Animal Vet | 6–8 Week Contract

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Locum Farm Veterinary Surgeon to join one of the UK’s largest independent, farm-only veterinary practices in Cheshire, supporting a progressive and expanding client base across the region.

This is an excellent opportunity for a confident and experienced Farm Vet who can hit the ground running, work independently and deliver a high standard of clinical care across a predominantly dairy-focused caseload. The role is available from June through to mid-July, with flexibility for a 6–8 week locum block.

The practice is seeking a proactive and capable Farm Animal Veterinary Surgeon with experience in dairy medicine, herd health and routine farm veterinary work. TB testing experience is highly desirable, although not essential.

The Role

This is a purely farm animal veterinary position, focused mainly on dairy work, alongside some beef and sheep involvement across a loyal and forward-thinking client base.

The successful locum will join a large and supportive team of approximately 20 farm vets, working with progressive farming businesses committed to high clinical and welfare standards.

The caseload offers variety and autonomy, with opportunities to work closely with dairy clients on:

  • Dairy herd health and fertility management
  • Routine and emergency farm veterinary work
  • Preventative medicine and production-focused veterinary support
  • Data-driven herd performance and decision-making
  • TB testing (ideal but not essential)

This position would suit a confident Locum Farm Vet who enjoys independent farm work and building strong relationships with clients.

Working Pattern

  • Start Date: June (through to mid-July)
  • Contract Length: 6–8 weeks
  • Hours: 8:00am – 5:30pm
  • Days: 4–5 days per week

Out-of-hours participation is not essential, although available for those interested.

  • Second Call: Approximately 1 in 18
  • Less than one night per week on call
  • Two vets on call overnight
  • Weekend rota approximately 1 in 9, alternating Saturdays and Sundays

The Candidate

The ideal candidate will be:

  • An experienced Farm Veterinary Surgeon with strong farm animal experience
  • Comfortable working independently and able to hit the ground running
  • Confident with dairy herd work and proactive farm veterinary practice
  • Ideally experienced in TB testing
  • Positive, motivated and team-oriented
  • Skilled at building strong client relationships
  • Committed to high standards of clinical care and animal welfare
