Salary from £60,000 DOE | 4 Nights Per Week | Independent 24-Hour Small Animal Hospital | Sign-On Bonus Available

An exceptional opportunity has arisen for an experienced and confident Night Veterinary Surgeon to join a thriving, progressive 24-hour small animal hospital in the West Midlands. This is an exciting opportunity for a Veterinary Surgeon seeking a rewarding out-of-hours (OOH) veterinary role within a well-equipped, independent practice that genuinely values clinical excellence, professional development, and work-life balance.

This permanent position offers a highly attractive Monday to Thursday night rota, providing an enviable three-day weekend every week.

This independent, two-branch veterinary practice offers a varied and stimulating caseload in a busy 24/7 veterinary hospital, making it ideal for an experienced small animal Veterinary Surgeon with a passion for emergency and critical care.

Working as a sole-charge Night Veterinary Surgeon, the successful candidate will be fully supported overnight by an experienced Night RVN, ensuring exceptional patient care throughout every shift.

The role offers exposure to an incredibly diverse clinical workload, including:

  • Emergency and critical care cases
  • First opinion consultations
  • Emergency surgical procedures
  • Small furry medicine and treatment
  • Advanced orthopaedic procedures
  • Inpatient and overnight case management

This position presents an excellent opportunity for a Vet looking to further develop their emergency medicine experience while working within a supportive and collaborative team environment.

The hospital is exceptionally well-equipped, enabling the clinical team to deliver outstanding patient care with access to modern technology and referral-level equipment, including:

  • Referral-level ultrasound
  • Dental X-ray facilities
  • Fully equipped orthopaedic theatre
  • Separate feline and canine wards and recovery areas
  • Modern diagnostics and surgical equipment within a busy 24-hour hospital setting

A Supportive, Progressive Team

The successful Night Veterinary Surgeon will become part of a welcoming and collaborative team comprising 6 Veterinary Surgeons, 4 RVNs, 5 Student Veterinary Nurses, and an experienced client care team.

This practice is passionate about professional growth and has fostered a strong learning culture, with team members currently undertaking certificates in:

  • Dentistry
  • Cardiology
  • Ultrasonography
  • Schedule 3 procedures
  • Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) Nursing

Certificates are fully supported and funded, making this an ideal opportunity for a Vet looking to pursue a clinical interest or specialism.

The Role

  • Permanent Night Veterinary Surgeon position
  • Monday – Thursday rota
  • 8:00pm – 8:00am shifts
  • Sole-charge OOH role with experienced Night RVN support
  • Flexible approach available for the right candidate

Candidate Requirements

This opportunity would suit an experienced and confident RCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon who is comfortable working in a sole-charge night role and enjoys emergency medicine, inpatient care, and varied caseloads.

Veterinary Surgeons with experience in ECC, emergency out-of-hours care, or hospital environments are particularly encouraged to apply.
