An amazing opportunity has arisen for an experienced Out-of-Hours (OOH) Veterinary Surgeon to join the dedicated night team at a well-established, RCVS-accredited small animal hospital in the vibrant market town of Dewsbury, West Yorkshire. Just a 13-minute train ride from Leeds and within easy reach of the Peak District and York, this Tier 3 hospital offers a high standard of patient care and houses ten satellite clinics. The hospital is known for its exceptional facilities and its commitment to delivering round-the-clock emergency care through an expert ECC team.
The successful candidate will work on a 7 nights on, 14 nights off rota, covering Monday to Friday from 8pm to 8am, and Saturday and Sunday from 6pm to 8am. During shifts, you’ll be supported by a Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) and a Patient Care Assistant (PCA), with responsibilities that include caring for in-patients and attending to emergencies overnight. Certificate study is actively encouraged and fully funded, making this an excellent opportunity for professional development.
The hospital itself is comprehensively equipped, boasting a theatre suite with three operating theatres and a dedicated scrub area, as well as separate wards for cats, dogs, exotics, and ICU. Advanced diagnostics include in-theatre X-ray, two ultrasound scanners including a top-of-the-line echo scanner, and on-site modern CT. There is an extensive range of scopes for flexible, rigid, and laparoscopic procedures, a dental suite with twin tub tables and X-ray, and a fully equipped internal laboratory. A newly opened Rehabilitation Centre offers physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, laser therapy, and a canine hot spa. Staff also benefit from a spacious and comfortable break area for rest and relaxation.
