Purovets are thrilled to be working with a well-established, renowned and proudly independent small animal practice in Derbyshire who are looking to add an enthusiastic and caring Veterinary Surgeon to their experienced, friendly and supportive team. Situated in a market town in the picturesque Derwent Valley, the practice is very social with a strong, supportive and welcoming team and would love to welcome a highly motivated new graduate or experienced veterinary surgeon to come and join them!
You will be working with a highly experienced and friendly team of four veterinary surgeons, two veterinary nurses, two veterinary care assistants and three receptionists, who are more than capable of providing the necessary support and guidance to a new graduate or less experienced veterinary surgeon. They are open to applications from more experienced candidates, as well as new graduates, and they are committed to helping support their new graduates in the transition from student to vet and feel you would benefit from their wide and varied caseload whilst also having the opportunity to be supported by one of their many experienced vets.
Their caseload consists of 95% cats and dogs and 5% rabbits, guinea pigs and chickens, as well as the occasional rat or mouse. They do three to four operations a day and offer 15-minute consultations for routines, and 30-minute consults for euthanasia, complex cases and blood tests. They are well-equipped with all the kit you would expect from a modern practice, and they pride themselves in offering their clients an exceptional standard of care. They have a second small, quiet waiting room for nervous animals and their owners, as well as full hospitalisation and surgical facilities. Their caseload is very varied, and they want you to enjoy building relationships with clients and working up interesting cases, but they keep some appointment slots for phone calls and catch up time if needed. There may be some sole charge for this role after a probationary period.
The culture of the practice is supportive and friendly, with a small, close-knit team that all chip in and foster a positive work culture. They very rarely have vacancies as staff like to stay for a long time, but one of their long-standing part-time veterinary surgeons is looking to retire and they are looking to increase the number of consults available as they have become increasingly busy over the past year. The working hours would be 4 days a week, 8:30am 7pm, with Thursday as a set day off, and 1 in 3 Saturdays, 8:30am 12pm, with no OOHs. As part of their benefits package, you will receive a generous CPD allowance, certificate support, biannual pay review and your RCVS and VDS fees paid, and accommodation is available as they have a flat onsite that is not occupied.
Whether you are an ambitious new graduate or a passionate experienced vet, we welcome you to apply for this rare and exciting opportunity!
