Independent Small Animal Practice | £50,000–£90,000 DOE + OOH | 4-Day Week
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join a modern, independent small animal practice in Southampton. Established just one year ago, this growing practice offers genuine clinical freedom, a supportive team culture, and access to excellent facilities and equipment.
The practice is seeking a Veterinary Surgeon with at least 2 years’ UK small animal experience who is confident managing a varied caseload and enjoys both medical and surgical work. This role would suit a vet looking to develop their clinical interests within a progressive independent practice, free from corporate targets and restrictions.
The team currently consists of 4 Veterinary Surgeons, including a certificate holder in surgery, creating an excellent environment for collaboration, mentorship, and continued professional development.
The Practice

- In-house orthopaedic surgery
- Soft tissue surgery
- Advanced dentistry
- Digital X-ray
- In-house laboratory
- Advanced ultrasound equipment with five probes supporting:
- Abdominal imaging
- Cardiac imaging
- Musculoskeletal imaging
- Ocular assessments
The practice is also committed to exceptional feline care. For long-stay feline patients, the clinic provides ISFM Gold Standard cat kennels designed to create a quieter, warmer, and less stressful recovery environment. Located within a soundproof room, these kennels significantly improve patient comfort and wellbeing during hospitalisation.
The Role
This is a full-time permanent Veterinary Surgeon position working a 4-day week. Flexible rota patterns are welcomed, allowing vets to achieve an excellent work-life balance.
The caseload is varied and rewarding, ranging from routine consultations and preventative healthcare through to more advanced medical and surgical cases.
There is also an in-house out-of-hours rota with dedicated nursing support.

Candidate Requirements
- MRCVS qualified Veterinary Surgeon
- Minimum 2 years’ small animal experience
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Passion for high-quality patient care
- Interest in surgery, medicine, or developing clinical certificates welcomed
