An established, independent small animal practice in West Sussex is seeking a confident Veterinary Surgeon with at least 2.5 years’ UK experience to join their friendly and collaborative team.

The Role
- First-opinion small animal caseload
- Freedom to work cases up to a high clinical standard
- Opportunity to develop a surgical interest, particularly in orthopaedics (fully funded certificate available)
- Involvement in mentoring and supporting less experienced vets
- Opportunity to contribute ideas and influence the future direction of the practice
- Clear and supported pathway towards senior/lead vet responsibilities
Out-of-Hours (OOH) – Transparent & Supportive
The practice operates its own OOH service, offering valuable exposure to emergency and complex cases while maintaining a fair and manageable rota:
- 1 in 3 weekends affected:
- One Saturday (8am–8pm) with Sunday off
- One full weekend in 6 including:
- Saturday morning consults (4 hours)
- Saturday & Sunday nights (8pm–8am)
- Monday off following
- One fixed night per week on-call (in practice)
- Monday off after Sunday night shifts
- Fully supported working environment
- Structured rota designed to maintain work-life balance

The Ideal Candidate
- RCVS registered Veterinary Surgeon
- Minimum 2.5 years’ UK practice experience
- Confident with routine surgery and first-opinion consultations
- Motivated to develop clinically and pursue further qualifications
- Comfortable mentoring or supporting junior team members
- Positive, proactive, and team-oriented approach
- Interested in building long-term client relationships
- Keen to progress into a senior or lead role
Orthopaedic experience is desirable but not essential — enthusiasm and commitment to develop in this area are key.
