Are you an experienced Veterinary Surgeon ready to take the next step in your career?

An established, independent small animal practice in West Sussex is seeking a confident Veterinary Surgeon with at least 2.5 years’ UK experience to join their friendly and collaborative team.

This is more than just another vet role — it’s a genuine opportunity to develop advanced clinical skills, support and mentor colleagues, and progress towards a future Lead Vet position within a practice where your ideas and input are truly valued.

About the Practice

  • Independent, locally owned practice with an 8-vet team
  • Purpose-built, fully equipped modern facility near the South Downs
  • Excellent transport links, including access to Gatwick and surrounding areas
  • Award-winning reputation for high-quality first-opinion care
  • In-house out-of-hours service providing continuity and strong clinical standards
  • Supportive, experienced, and collaborative team culture
  • Accredited training practice (VetGDP, veterinary nurse training, and university-affiliated)

This practice is committed to delivering gold-standard care, allowing time for cases, and investing in both people and professional development.

The Role

  • First-opinion small animal caseload
  • Freedom to work cases up to a high clinical standard
  • Opportunity to develop a surgical interest, particularly in orthopaedics (fully funded certificate available)
  • Involvement in mentoring and supporting less experienced vets
  • Opportunity to contribute ideas and influence the future direction of the practice
  • Clear and supported pathway towards senior/lead vet responsibilities

Out-of-Hours (OOH) – Transparent & Supportive

The practice operates its own OOH service, offering valuable exposure to emergency and complex cases while maintaining a fair and manageable rota:

  • 1 in 3 weekends affected:
    • One Saturday (8am–8pm) with Sunday off
    • One full weekend in 6 including:
      • Saturday morning consults (4 hours)
      • Saturday & Sunday nights (8pm–8am)
      • Monday off following
  • One fixed night per week on-call (in practice)
  • Monday off after Sunday night shifts
  • Fully supported working environment
  • Structured rota designed to maintain work-life balance

What’s on Offer

  • Salary: £45,000 – £70,000 (dependent on experience)
  • 4-day working week
  • Funded certificate (orthopaedics encouraged)
  • Generous CPD allowance
  • Supportive and approachable leadership team
  • Clear long-term career progression
  • Birthday leave every year
  • BUPA health insurance
  • Generous holiday allowance
  • A genuinely supportive, fun, and people-focused independent practice

The Ideal Candidate

  • RCVS registered Veterinary Surgeon
  • Minimum 2.5 years’ UK practice experience
  • Confident with routine surgery and first-opinion consultations
  • Motivated to develop clinically and pursue further qualifications
  • Comfortable mentoring or supporting junior team members
  • Positive, proactive, and team-oriented approach
  • Interested in building long-term client relationships
  • Keen to progress into a senior or lead role

Orthopaedic experience is desirable but not essential — enthusiasm and commitment to develop in this area are key.
