Are you passionate about Emergency and Critical Care and thrive on the challenge of non-routine cases? If so, this role may be the perfect opportunity for you. Our client, an RCVS accredited small animal hospital located in the vibrant city of Derby, is seeking a permanent weekend Veterinary Surgeon to join their outstanding team.

Derby, a city steeped in history and culture, is situated on the picturesque River Derwent in Derbyshire. Ranked 23rd in the UK's best places to live in 2015, the city offers a mix of charming countryside, rich history, and a lively social scene, making it a fantastic place to call home.

This role offers the unique opportunity to handle a diverse and steady caseload, as our client provides out-of-hours services for their own practices and several nearby practices. The weekend team focuses on consultations and inpatient care, handling cases primarily related to emergencies and sick animals, with minimal routine work. Weekend inpatient care involves looking after existing patients and performing emergency procedures, such as foreign body removals, GDV surgeries, C-sections, and dressing changes.

The hospital itself is a hub of activity, serving as a busy first-opinion practice, a multidisciplinary referral centre, and an out-of-hours provider. In addition to the main hospital, our client operates eight RCVS-approved practice sites. The hospital is equipped with cutting-edge facilities, including a CT scanner, MRI, advanced ultrasound, endoscopy, digital X-ray, dental radiography, multiple surgical suites, and an onsite hydrotherapy and rehabilitation centre. The hospital also benefits from a specialist-led referral service, providing an exceptional level of care.

You will be working alongside a talented and experienced team of veterinary surgeons, supported by a dedicated group of Registered Veterinary Nurses, Student Veterinary Nurses, Veterinary Care Assistants, and Client Care Advisors. This is an excellent opportunity for those looking for a better work-life balance, offering a flexible schedule ideal for fly-in-fly-out vets or individuals seeking to deepen their ECC experience.
