Join a passionate team making a difference for donkeys worldwide
Are you an experienced equine vet with strong leadership skills and a passion for animal welfare? We’ve got an exciting opportunity for you to take the lead at a beautifully located, well-equipped veterinary hospital in a scenic Devon market town.
Our client is a global animal welfare charity dedicated to improving the lives of donkeys around the world. Their mission is simple but powerful: to create a world where every donkey enjoys a good quality of life. They’re doing this through hands-on care, advocacy, education, and building strong partnerships.
As Head of Veterinary Services, you'll oversee a skilled and compassionate team looking after the health and wellbeing of hundreds of donkeys and mules across seven local farms (all within 30 miles). The main site—a 142-acre farm set high on a hill with stunning valley views—has been home to 350 donkeys since 1976 and is supported by a close-knit team of 15 including vets, nurses, grooms, dental technicians, and admin staff.
This is a varied and meaningful leadership role. You’ll be responsible for:
• Leading and managing the veterinary team on a daily basis
• Supporting the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based clinical care
• Overseeing the on-site lab and clinical governance
• Providing expert advice on all things donkey health
• Helping shape the charity’s approach to veterinary care and welfare
We’re looking for someone who:
• Is MRCVS-qualified with a veterinary degree
• Brings senior-level experience in equine practice
• Has a flexible, supportive leadership style
• Can inspire and motivate a diverse team
• Is driven by a deep commitment to animal welfare
• Has a solid background in equine medicine and surgery
Experience in a charity or equine welfare organisation would be a bonus, but it’s not essential.
This is a full-time, permanent position (37.5 hours/week), with core hours of 8:00–16:30, Monday to Friday. Participation in the on-call rota for evenings and weekends will be required as part of the role.
If you’re ready to bring your skills, experience, and compassion to a role where you can make a real difference every day, we’d love to hear from you.
The Package:
• A fantastic salary of £66,000
