Veterinary Surgeon – Kennington, South London
Salary: £45,000 – £67,000 (FTE, DOE) | No OOH | Flexible Working

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Veterinary Surgeon to join a thriving first-opinion practice in the heart of South London. This well-established clinic has experienced consistent growth and is now seeking a second vet to support an experienced senior clinician with an increasing caseload.

The Role

This is a flexible position offering 30–40 hours per week. A full-time schedule includes alternating Mondays and Fridays off, alongside a shared weekend rota of 1:4 branch Saturdays and 1:10 hospital Sundays. There is also a requirement to cover 1–2 bank holidays per year at a nearby 24-hour hospital.

Importantly, there are no on-call duties, ensuring a strong work-life balance.

The Practice

Located in a vibrant and well-connected area of South London, this practice is a busy, fast-paced clinic suited to a confident vet who thrives in a dynamic environment. The role involves managing a varied GP caseload, including occasional emergencies, so applicants should be comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.

The practice is well-equipped, including ultrasound facilities, making it an excellent environment for vets with an interest in diagnostic imaging. The clinic spans two floors, requiring good organisation and communication skills.

You will be supported by an experienced senior vet, a strong nursing team (including a senior RVN and trainee nurses), as well as dedicated regional management and clinical leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality consultations, examinations, and treatment plans in line with best practice and clinical protocols
  • Perform routine GP surgical procedures within your level of competence
  • Prescribe and dispense medications in accordance with current legislation and professional guidelines
  • Maintain accurate and detailed clinical records
  • Refer cases appropriately when required
  • Contribute to a positive, collaborative team environment

Out-of-Hours & Referral Support

Patients benefit from seamless support via a nearby 24-hour hospital, which manages all out-of-hours care and advanced referrals. As part of your induction, you will spend time with the hospital team to ensure confidence in referral processes and weekend shifts.

Location

The practice is ideally situated just an 8-minute walk from Kennington Underground Station (Northern Line) and within 10 minutes of The Oval, offering excellent transport links and local amenities.

Salary & Benefits

  • Salary: £45,000 – £67,000 per annum (FTE, dependent on experience)
  • 6.6 weeks annual leave including bank holidays (pro rata)
  • Generous relocation support (where applicable)
  • CPD allowance of up to £2,000 per year plus up to 5 days’ paid CPD leave
  • Private medical insurance (Bupa)
